EGEMSA HYDRO POWER PLANT avoided
PRODUCTION LOSS of $ 6 Mio
Predictive information about machinery health helps increase availability and revenue at EGEMSA’s hydro power plant in Machu Picchu. It also saves significant operational and repair costs. The 100 MW plant, built by Alstom, supplies the famous Inca region with electricity.
According to engineer Fredy Saavedra Valderrama, EGEMSA,“avoiding downtime for bearing inspections of three power generation units saves a production loss of 1260 MWh per year plus the time and machine parts spent.”
Two problems with misalignment of the turbine generator set were also identified before they became too serious.
“Because we knew about the misalignment in due time, we could plan solving the problem during an upcoming scheduled maintenance”, says Mr. Valderrama. “If the fault had not been identified automatically, it could have caused considerable damage with extremely high repair and stand-still costs for 6-12 months with an economical loss of up to USD 6 million per unit.
EGEMSA was able to skip the annual bearing inspections, avoid damages and save costs thanks to a Rovsing Dynamics solution with online monitoring of 3 x 30 MWA Pelton hydro turbines and offline monitoring of auxiliary machinery.
