Complex hydro power plants

Our article "Predicting hydro machinery health" has been published in the magazine Power Engineering Int.

The July/August issue of the magazine Power Engineering International brings a Rovsing Dynamics’ article discussing the special condition monitoring needs of the often unmanned hydro power plants exemplified by Alstom plants.

The article highlights technical aspects of advanced monitoring of hydro turbines such as vibration, rotor-stator gap and partial discharge monitoring, and automated fault diagnosis with prediction of lead time to inspection. These are all invaluable tools to plan and prioritize maintenance, and features of the OPENpredictor™ system.

The article also includes examples of hydro power plants built or refurbished by Alstom. One of these plants now saves more than USD 30,000 per year as online monitoring using OPENpredictor™ has made it possible to avoid downtime for unnecessary inspections.
